Day one Washington trip

Despite the early morning travel, we were all still very much excited and we could barley sleep the night before.

We got up at around three in the morning to catch the early flight. We were all very excited to experience this with each other.

When we arrived in Washington, we were greeted with great weather and a great atmosphere. We eventually got in and settled into our rooms with our roommates. We hung around before we had a great evening dinner were I met lots of new people and got to know the close community. I was surprised by how much I have in common with the Calgary group.

Afterwards, we went on a bus tour along with the Calgary groups. Our tour guide and bus driver were both awesome and we had lots of fun exploring different sites. First we visited the White House, where there was heavy security and lots of tourists. Secondly, we visited Vietnam memorial, which was emotional at times because of the large death toll. We also walked through the the Korean War memorial, which equally was emotional and silent. We saw tall statues throughout, and granite reflecting walls which depicts the many men and women that gave their lives in these bitter days of war. Last but not least, we went to the Lincoln memorial, which was fascinating, as we saw the exact spot where Martin Luther king jr voiced his " I have a dream" speech. We also saw the reflecting pool with the Washington monument in the distance.

We ended the day exhausted, though it was an intriguing introduction of what's to come!
